Who is Juliu Horvath?

Juliu Horvath discovered the GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® principles that form the foundation for this novel approach to maintaining health and well-being. Born in Romania in 1942, as a boy he engaged in sporting activities and became involved in dance. He joined the Temesvar Opera at the age of 20 and then went to the USA in 1970 where he was granted political asylum. He performed with the New York City Opera, Radio City Music Hall and the Houston Ballet.

After an injury ultimately ended his professional dancing career, Juliu used his knowledge of dance, yoga and prior movement training, and created "yoga for dancers", or better known today as GYROKINESIS®. He eventually created a machine that became the basis for the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM®. His movement method is now practiced worldwide and is used to train and rehabilitate dancers, athletes, and laypeople.

GYROTONIC®, GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM®, and GYROKINESIS® are registered trademarks of GYROTONIC® Sales Corporation and is used with their permission.
